NPC chair urges TNA MPs to take action against Sinhala colonisation of North

The chair of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) has called on the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to take urgent action to stop Sinhalisation and land-grabs in the Northern Province.

Writing to the TNA’s fourteen MPs, NPC chair C V K Sivagnanam urged the party to prioritise tackling violations and land-grabs by Sri Lankan government agencies that act as a front for Sinhala colonisation, namely the archaeology department, forest department and wildlife department.

These departments tended to act completely against local sentiment in the North and had no respect for the culture and history of the areas they operated in, Sivagnanam said.

Tamil representatives have been expressing growing concerns about state-sponsored Sinhala Buddhist colonisation and land-grabs in the North, especially in the heavily militarised Mullaitivu district.
