NFF condemns TNA’s attempt to halt construction of Buddhist temples

The National Freedom Front (NFF) condemned the Tamil National Alliance’s (TNA) alleged action to stop the construction of Buddhist temples in the North-East.

MP Jayantha Samaraweera (NFF) stated that according to sources, the TNA had informed the Unity Government of its opposition against the construction of Buddhist temples in the North-East.

He further added that MP Sumanthiran (TNA) expressed that he would not allow for the construction of Buddhist temples and that he had held this stance since 2011.

Samaraweera stated that the NFF had strongly condemned Sumanthiran’s statements. “This country was built based on the essence of Buddhist culture. It had never created any restrictions to the Hindu, Catholic or Islamic religions to function while safeguarding their identities. Buddhist culture had always led towards true national and religious reconciliation,” he said.
