Mortar shell recovered in Vavuniya

An undetonated mortar shell was recovered in Vavuniya by Sri Lankan authorities on Tuesday.

The Sri Lankan State Intelligence Service (SAS) was informed by local sources that explosive shell devices had been discovered in a field in the Arasamurippu area in Omanthai, Vavuniya.

Based on this information, state officials and Omanthai Police rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough search in which they found the explosive mortar shell.

The authorities deactivated the device after obtaining permission from the local court.
