Kashmiri militants killed by Indian soldiers

Two Kashmiri separatist militants were killed by Indian soldiers and a further two people have been killed in a grenade attack.

The attacks follow a security clampdown with India’s government shutting down internet and phone lines as well as increasing its military presence in the Muslim-majority region of Kashmir.

This follows successive moves by the Hindu nationalist BJP government to strip Kashmir of its rights. On August 5, the Indian government moved to strip Kashmir of its autonomous status increase India’s control of the region. On October 31, Modi’s government changed the Jammu and Kashmir state into two federally-controlled territories and revoked special provisions for the region, which had been previously granted,
