Students at the University of Jaffna marked day three of Maaveerar remembrance week on campus today.
They laid flowers at a memorial that is dedicated to Tamil fighters that lost their lives in the armed conflict.
The plaque on the memorial reads,
“Oh you who sacrificed your precious lives
For our country’s dawn of freedom”
The Tamil nation marks Maaveerar Naal- or Great Heroes Day - on November 27 to remember those who sacrificed their lives in the Tamil struggle for freedom.

Memorial events are held in the week leading up to Maaveerar Naal. Commemorations began across the North-East on November 21, to mark the first day of Maaveerar remembrance week.
