The Faculty of Law at the University of Jaffna inaugurated the second annual Jaffna International Law Conference last week.
The event took place at the Huber Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine under the theme, "Do Justice". Organised in collaboration with the Surana & Surana International Attorneys firm from India, this year’s conference emphasises the role of law as a tool for “change, transformation, and stability.”
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, Preethi Padman Surasena, attended the event as the chief guest, while Kishali Pinto Jayawardena, a commissioner of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission, was the special guest.
The conference was graced by a range of distinguished guests, including:
• Professor Sivakolundhu Sreesatkunaraja, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna,
• Professor Sivasubramaniam Raghuram, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna,
• Sai Murali, Indian Deputy Consul General to Jaffna,
• Attorney-at-Law M.A. Sumanthiran,
• Judges, lawyers, legal experts, and students.
This year’s conference continues to foster discussions on the role of the legal system in addressing societal challenges and promoting justice, especially in contexts marked by transformation and stability.
