The Jaffna Regional Office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has summoned for inquiry, police officers accused of assaulting a Department of Irrigation employee from Santhapuram, Kilinochchi.

The complaint was lodged by the young government official, a resident of Santhapuram, who stated that two police officers attached to the Kilinochchi Police Station had, without any just cause, physically assaulted him and handcuffed him.

Based on this complaint, the Human Rights Commission has reportedly issued summons for the concerned police officers, the Officer-in-Charge of the Kilinochchi Police Station, and the Senior Superintendent of Police for the Kilinochchi District to appear before the Commission’s regional office in Jaffna for an inquiry on the 21st of this month.
