The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has launched an inquiry after Sri Lankan police officers assaulted at least three Tamil men in Mullivaikkal last month.
The attack, which took place on May 6, saw police officers broke into the houses of each victim and demanded the residents produce a named individual, and then brutally assaulted each householder. Despite all three victims needing hospital treatment, Mullaitivu police has refused to register complaints against the officers.
A complaint was lodged at the Vavuniya regional office of the Human Rights Commission on behalf of the victims, with the police officer involved in the investigation and the Mullaitivu Assistant Superintendent of Police were present this week.
The Human Rights Commission has said that inquiries will continue later this month.
The attack took place during a military enforced curfew last month, when several incidents of state violence erupted across the North.
