Four Palestinians and one Israeli have been killed in the recent flare up of violence between Gaza militants and the Israeli Army.

The violence began on Friday after four Palestinians were killed in two separate incidents. Two Palestinians were shot dead during the weekly Great March of Return against the blockade of the area. Two militants were killed during an air raid targeting a Hamas outpost. An Israeli man died after being wounded by shrapnel when a rocket hit his house.

Nickolay Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process said he is, “deeply concerned by yet another dangerous escalation in Gaza and tragic loss of life.”

The UN has called on all parties to “immediately de-escalate and return to the understandings of the past few months.”
