The annual Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman Temple ‘Ther’ was held on Friday.
The historic temple's chariot festival was celebrated in its traditionally spectacular fashion with the day commencing with the “Vasantha Mandapam Pooja” at 7am.
Following this, the Nagapooshani Amman, accompanied with Lord Murugan and Ganesh shrines, was transported in a chariot to offer blessings to the devotees and attendees.
The Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman Temple is thousands of years old, having been mentioned in ancient Tamil and Greek texts. The original temple was looted and destroyed by the Portuguese in 1620.
