Wigneswaran takes over 3 portfolios

The chief minister of the northern provincial council, C V Wigneswaran on Monday took over three new portfolios: finance and planning, law and order, lands, social services, rehabilitation, woman affairs, electricity, housing and construction, industries and enterprise promotion, tourism, local government and provincial administration.

Mr Wigneswaran was sworn in before the governor, Reginald Cooray at the Governor's Secretariat.

Speaking to reporters after the swearing in ceremony, Mr Wigneswaran said these portfolios were initially under him when he assumed duties as the chief minister in 2013 but he later devolved these portfolios to his cabinet ministers due to the lack of staff in his secretariat.

“I believe it would be easy for effective administration if we brought all these relevant department under one umbrella. Also moves are underway to set up Chief Minister Fund (CMF) to get financial aid and it would be easy to coordinate with all departments," he explained.
