British Tamils protest through London to commemorate Mullivaikkal genocide

Tamils in London demonstrated through the city to mark 17 years since the genocide at Mullivaikkal.

The rally began at Parliament Square, where Tamils staged weeks-long protests in 2009, urging the international community to intervene and halt Sri Lanka’s military offensive.

The protesters held Tamil Eelam flags as they marched through Westminster and ended outside 10 Downing Street.

A memorial for the victims of the Tamil genocide was held outside 10 Downing Street. Kalaiyarasi Maniarasan, the Deputy Director of the Tamil Youth Organisation UK (TYO UK) raised the United Kingdom flag.

This was followed by the raising of the Tamil Eelam flag by Lt Col Rajan, a former cadre who was in Mullivaikkal until the end of the armed conflict.

Selvan, the brother of two fallen LTTE cadres, lit the sacrificial lamp and flowers were then laid at a makeshift grave.

Mullivaikkal Kanji was served to conclude the event.
