Tamils in Mannar observed the sixth day of Tamil Genocide Remembrance Week today by distributing Mullivaikkal Kanji to commemorate the massacre
The Mannar branch of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) organised an event at Mannar main bus stand with the participation former parliamentarian Charles Nirmalanathan, local party representatives and Mannar local government members.

Another event was held in the Periyamurippu area of the Madhu Divisional Secretariat in Mannar district, where members of the public organised a Mullivaikkal kanji distribution programme with the support of the Mannar District Former Freedom Fighters Welfare Association.
Organisers stated that the distribution of Mullivaikkal kanji symbolises the hardships, starvation and humanitarian crisis faced by Tamils trapped in the Vanni during the final months of the armed conflict in 2009.
Victim-survivors of the genocide, their families and local residents participated in the event.
