Preparations at Mulankaavil thuyilum illam, in Kilinochchi, have been completed ahead of Maaveerar Naal commemorations expected to take place later today.
Across the thuyilum illam - resting place - red and yellow flags have been raised and a makeshift monument made up of the destroyed gravestones stands tall for people to offer their respects.

Following the end of the armed conflict, all cemeteries built by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were razed to the ground by Sri Lanka's security forces.
Families of fallen cadres, activists and local residents have gathered the remnants of smashed gravestones to create monuments in memory of the Tamils who sacrificed their lives for liberation.
