Members of the Eastern Province People’s Planning Forum have expressed strong condemnation of Sri Lanka's ongoing land grabs and Sinhala Buddhist colonisation in the Eastern Province, which they say run counter to the government's own pledges.
Their comments come in a press conference, just days after the installation of a Buddha statue near the historic Ukanthamalai Murugan Temple, located along the coast in the Amparai District.

The group also announced their intention to launch a large-scale protest against these actions. This statement was made by the Union’s Provincial Treasurer, Dakshanamoorthy Navajothi, during a press conference held on Sunday at Sarvodaya in Trincomalee.
Reiterating their stance, the members emphasized their firm opposition to the continued appropriation of land and aggressive imposition of Buddhist structures in the region, vowing to organize a mass demonstration in protest.
