
Two women have been arrested following the discovery of a gold-plated T56 assault rifle at the Havelock City housing complex in Colombo. The arrests were made after a security officer at the complex reported the presence of the weapon to the police.
According to Sri Lankan Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga, the weapon was discovered following a tip-off from a security officer at the complex.
The suspects, aged 40 and 68, are residents of Battaramulla and Colombo 06, respectively. They were arrested on charges of possession of the weapon and are to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
The Wellawatte Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
