A blood donation campaign was held at the Vavuniya headquarters Police Station on 30th January.
The event was organised by the Vavuniya Community Police Group in response to the blood shortage at the Vavuniya Hospital.
During this event, members of the Community Police Group, police officers, security personnel, and the general public participated and donated blood.
In 2018, The governor of the Northern province made controversial comments that 'Sinhalese blood is being mixed with Tamils' and also said that the Sinhalese soldiers blood runs in Tamils.
Senior military officials, such as Major General Hathurusinghe, also said in 2014,
“Our blood is in the majority of the Tamils that live here, therefore Tamils cannot call themselves pure Tamils anymore. Our army’s Sinhalese blood is in Tamils.”
These blood donation campaign often happen in Tamil majority areas by the Sri Lankan military troops and officials.
The event was attended by the Vavuniya District Assistant Police Superintendent, the Officer-in-Charge of the Headquarters Police Station, the Officer-in-Charge of the Community Police Group, and several others.
