In a fiery press conference, T Rajendar has slammed the ruling Rajapaksa regime and called for an end to their reign as he announced the release of a new song and expressed solidarity with the island’s Eelam Tamils.
“We have to chase this money minded animal out of the country,” Rejandar told reporters.
“Hey Rajapaksa!” he pointed, referring to Sri Lanka’s prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. “You are a fallen emperor turned into beggar.”
The famous Kollywood actor, filmmaker, musician and cinematographer, known for his rhyming lines, went on to berate the Sri Lankan rulers, stating they were akin to spit and calling for their immediate removal from office. “We have to chase this money minded animal out of the country,” he added. “This Rajapaksa regime not only betrayed Sri Lankan Tamils but also the humanity. I will always consider the Sri Lanka Tamils as my brethren.”
Rajendar also announced the release of a new song, with lyricist Kavignar Asmin and composed by musician Shameel J, which calls for the removal of the Rajapaksas. The song - “Nanga Vazhanuma, Saganuma Sollunga” which roughly translates to “tell us if we should live or die” - has racked up tens of thousands of hits in recent days.
In his press conference, Rajendar highlighted that it was during the Congress regime, that the Indian government “helped to massacre Sri Lankan Tamils” referring repeatedly to the genocide at Mullivaikkal.
Rajendar went on to speak on the current crisis on the island, stating “Sri Lankan Tamils are facing enormous difficulties today”, and said that “Tamils are remembering their leader and warrior Prabhakaran”.
“If refugees are coming to Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu government should make a decision. The central government is ready to listen to the decision of Tamil Nadu. But, what is the government of Tamil Nadu and other political parties are doing? They are inactive. Their only objective is get votes during the election and make a coalition among themselves. People in Sri Lanka are suffering.”
