World Forest Day celebrated by pre-schoolers in Jaffna

In celebration of World Forest Day on March 21 pre-school students from Jaffna’s Vinayagar Gnana Kuzhanthai home received and planted saplings.

The event was headed by Gnana Kuzhanthai teacher, K Madhushanthini and was attended by all school teachers as well as members and students.

The Association Secretary, Sasikaran also educated the students on the importance of wildlife and forests and how it benefits humans.

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as International Day of Forests to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. It is encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organise activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns on this day.
