Gas stove explodes in Mullaitivu leaving public in fear

A cooking gas explosion in Selvapuram, Mullaitivu has caused a state of panic as locals are already struggling with the gas shortages and soaring prices amidst the economic crisis. 

The victim was left unscathed as he was away from the stove at the time of explosion. 

Between October and December 2021, there was a wave of over 800 cooking gas explosions in Sri Lanka, creating a major safety hazard on the island. 

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa ordered a committed to probe the unexplained gas explosions which claimed that a change in the composition of the gas was the main cause for the explosions. However, Litro Gas Lank Ltd Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe refuted the claims and said the composition had nothing to do with the explosions.

“Though some have suggested that the cause of the gas leaks and explosions was a change in the composition of the gas, it has now been confirmed that none of the incidents reported so far have been caused by a change in composition,” he reportedly said.
