Swiss MPs call for 'international justice' and 'end to impunity' in Sri Lanka

Two Swiss parliamentarians called for "international justice" and an "end to impunity in Sri Lanka" as Tamils across the world marked the 12th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal genocide.

Fabian Molina, a Social Democratic Party parliamentarian, tweeted that he supports the "call of the Tamil community for international justice and an end to impunity in Sri Lanka."

#Mullivaikkal

Translation: Twelve years ago the war ended in #SriLanka. Tens of thousands of Tamil civilians were killed within a short space of time. I therefore support the call of the Tamil community for international justice and an end to impunity in Sri Lanka. #Mullivaikkal

Claudia Friedl, Social Democratic Party MP echoed the call for an international investigation for war crimes, tweeting:

Translation: 12 years ago today the war in #SriLanka ended. At that time, according to the UN, over 70,000 civilians died within a few months. I therefore support the call for justice and international processing of crimes so that #peace and reconciliation become possible.

In the final days of the armed conflict, tens of thousands of Tamils were killed in a Sri Lankan military offensive, including the indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas, targeting of hospitals, sexual violence and torture. Although 12 years have passed since the massacre at Mullivaikkal, Sri Lanka has not been held accountable for it's crimes.
