Former foreign secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar appointed as India's foreign minister

<p>Former foreign secretary and Ambassador to the US, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, has been appointed as India’s foreign minister, in what marks the first time a diplomat has been appointed as foreign minister without running for election.</p> <p>Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is not officially affiliated with any party, previously served as India’s&nbsp;ambassador to the United States, China and Singapore. During his time as ambassador to the US, under the Obama administration,&nbsp;he played an instrumental&nbsp;role in removing Modi's travel ban to the US.&nbsp;</p> <p>Most recently he worked as the foreign secretary under the previous Modi administration.</p> <p>During his early diplomatic career Subrahmanyam served as first secretary and political&nbsp;advisor to the Indian Peacekeeping Forces (IPKF) in Sri Lanka, from 1988-1990.</p> <p>See more <a href="https://in.reuters.com/article/india-politics-cabinet/torrent-of-bad-ne…">here.</a></p>
