The Mayor of London praised the city’s Tamil community in a message released on Sunday morning, as many celebrated Puthandu.
“It’s also a time for all Londoners to reflect on the brilliant contribution that Tamil Londoners make to our great city,” said Sadiq Khan.
“London is so lucky to have such a thriving Tamil community that makes an invaluable contribution to our economy, to our culture and to the vibrancy of the capital.”
“You show, yet again, that our diversity is a strength, not a weakness.”
His message comes just days after the Metropolitan Police announced it had arrested at least four “Sri Lankan nationals” on suspicion of membership of a proscribed terrorist organisation.
