Spanish police raid warehouses to confiscate Catalan independence referendum campaign material

Spanish authorities, on Sunday, raided warehouses in Barcelona to confiscate over 1.3million leaflets and campaign material promoting the Catalan independence referendum.

Spain’s Interior Ministry said the operation was the largest in a series of similar raids, reports Reuters.

Officials said that Spanish prosecutors have ordered police to investigate any efforts to promote the referendum adding that it would charge any officials promoting the referendum with abuse of office and misuse of public funds.

Catalan’s parliament passed a law enabling the independence referendum earlier this month, with Spain’s Constitutional Court suspending it the next day.
