Sri Lanka's 551 Brigade troops were garlanded by Tamil schoolchildren from the Alvai Ambal Vidyalaya, as they organised a ceremony overseeing donations from the 'Old Anandians group of Southern Province' last Friday.

The previous day, soldiers from the 51 Division “joined hands” with the ‘Kerala Astrologer Operational Foundation’ at the Paramsothi Vidyalaya in Kondavil, to donate items to Tamil children, reports a military website.
The events come as a spokesperson from the Tamil Civil Society Forum said militarisation was “at its peak” in the Tamil North-East.
