US State Department official to visit Sri Lanka

Macon Phillips, the United States’ Coordinator for the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP), is set to visit Sri Lanka in the coming days, reports Colombo Gazette.

The US official, will be the next State Department official to visit the island, following on from Counselor of the US State Department Thomas Shannon last month and US Ambassador Samantha Power’s trip to the North-East in November.

Mr Phillips has recently visited India, where he discussed how public policy conversations were taking place online.

He has previously said the role of the IIP is to “engage audiences around the world to work with the United States on areas of shared interest.”
