Colombo Gazette reported that the commission was set to hold sittings in Jaffna, Nallur, Vadamarachi and Vallikamam later this week.
However in October, Sri Lanka’s Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, who is also minister for the Buddha Sasana, announced the abolition of the commission, admitting that “even locally, most of the people are not happy with the Commission and they have no faith in its process”.
Though another "more effective" commission was promised, the process set up by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, is set to continue.
Families of the missing and disappeared held a protest in Jaffna last week, demanding all details of their possible whereabouts to be released.
Last month a Tamil family whose whereabouts were unknown after surrendering to the Sri Lankan military in May 2009, were dropped off by unknown persons in Jaffna last week, after more than six years in custody.
