Posters by President Maithripala Sirisena's party, the SLFP, have appeared hailing him for saving Sri Lanka from the imperialist trap, after the passing of the consensus resolution on Sri Lanka on Thursday.
The poster, which included the SLFP's betel leaf symbol, was in Sinhala and read:
"We salute the president for protecting the country from the imperialist trap."
The government over the last few weeks has boasted how it has prevented more serious action being taken against Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Council and has claimed credit for the "watering down" of the resolution.
