The Council of the European Union (EU) will appeal the judgement of the General Court to annul the proscribing of the Liberation Tamil Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Council of the European Union said,
“It is important to remember that this legal ruling was clearly based on procedural grounds and it did not imply any assessment by the court of substantive issues of designating the LTTE or freezing LTTE funds,” said the statement.
The Council added that it would challenge the court findings on procedural grounds to list organisations under EU measures to combat terrorism, reports Colombo Page.
