OHCHR sends inquiry details to Sri Lanka

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said today that the Sri Lankan government has been notified of the details of the team that will conduct the investigations into human rights violations.

A spokesperson for the OHCHR told Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror that a broad outline of the structure for the investigation, and the appointment of Sandra Beidas to lead it, was sent to the government in a letter last week, and that the mechanisms needed for the probe would be “up and running” by July.

Two external experts and three special rapporteurs - on extra judicial and arbitrary killing, torture and enforced disappearances - will work with the OHCHR team, the official further said.
