Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka led a protest in front of the UN building in Colombo today, against the draft resolution tabled at the UN Human Rights Council
Carrying a banner reading, "Do not set your hands on national rights in the guise of preserving human rights", the monks led a procession of protesters which included traditional Sinhala dancers.
In a letter addressed directly to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, protest organisers, the National Rights Organisation, appeared to call on him to take action against the resolution proposed by the US.
The letter, a portion of which emerged on Twitter earlier today, appeared to describe the resolution as based on "information of questionable veracity" and "evidence concocted by the pro-LTTE Tamil D[iaspora]".
Addressing the UNHRC yesterday Ban Ki Moon welcomed the report released last month by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights which asserted that an international inquiry was necessary as Sri Lanka had failed to credibly investigate credible allegations.
