The Education and Career Development Council of the Canadian Tamil Youth Association (CTYA) held its first Annual Robotics Competition on April 22 on Arivakam’s Kids Day in Markham Fairgrounds.

As a youth-assisting-youth project, engineering university graduates held workshops on a weekly basis for students in grades 4-8 to help them recognise and develop their skills in preparation for the competition.
Students with a strong interest and passion for robotics and engineering participated in the workshops.
Arjun and Praveen, Grade 5 and 7 students, programmed their way to the finish line first and were crowned champions. The aim of the competition was to clear a minefield using their robots and race through a complicated racetrack to get to the finish line. Arjun and Praveen both expressed being fascinated by robotics from a young age.
“As a director, I am proud to have helped initiate such an innovative youth for youth program which allowed the children to explore and bring out their hidden talents. It is our aim and goal to continue to initiate such different projects in different educational forums, so as to allow the children to gain experience and see where their strongest interest lies, which will allow them to choose their career paths” commented Tharmiya Balendran, Education and Career Development Council Director.
