The Sri Lankan military have set up more checkpoints in the already heavily militarised North-East as Maaveerar remembrance week begins.
The checkpoints have been set up on main roads, including the A9, with vehicles being subjected to intense searches. Checkpoints have also been set up in Elephant Pass, Mankulam and Omanthai where the military have been noting vehicle registration numbers and passenger details.
The Sri Lankan army, who continue to be stationed across the Tamil homeland, have ramped up their intimidation tactics as the Tamil nation prepares to mark Maaveerar Naal. Over the last few weeks, Tamils have been cleaning Thuyilum Illams across the North-East, despite facing harassment from the Sri Lankan military.
