The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Sri Lanka are to initiate talks in the coming days regarding a financial assistance program after the state sought help to avert the deepening economic crisis.

On the status of that discussion, we plan to initiate those programme discussion with the Sri Lankan authorities including during the Finance Minister’s visit to Washington in April,” Gerry Rice, the IMF’s spokesperson said.
Sri Lanka, currently struggling with one of its worst financial crisies, has sought assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) whilst also seeking loans from India and China to stabilise it's economy.
