Sri Lanka's Counter-Terrorism Investigation Department (CTID) has ordered Selvanayagam Aravindhan, to provide the personal details of all the participants who attended an event to commemorate the Tamil Genocide on May 18 last year.
Aravindhan, a former political prisoner residing in Thonikkal, Vavuniya, has been ordered to provide the details to the authorities by tomorrow.
In recent years, there has been a renewed crackdown by the state on Tamil memorialisation events across the North-East. Efforts by Tamil victims and survivors to commemorate the past are suppressed by restrictions in the form of court orders and intense state surveillance.
