Sri Lankan police officer attacks diners in Kilinochchi restaurant for not wearing face masks

A mob which included the Sri Lankan police Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of a local station in Kilinochchi attacked diners at a restaurant last month, allegedly for not wearing face masks.

CCTV footage from the restaurant shows the masked men raiding the premises on November 24th and attacking diners as well as employees.

According to a report on MediaLK, who enquired about the incident the next day, the Sri Lankan police claimed the raid was carried out due to diners not wearing face masks.

The diners responded by asking how they were meant to eat their food with face masks still on.

The latest incident came in the midst of a crackdown in the North-East as Tamils across the region prepared to mark Maaveerar Naal last month. The Sri Lankan security forces continue to occupy the North-East, with several notable incidents of police brutality noted.
