TNA meets with EU delegation and emphasises the need to repeal PTA

Senior Tamil National Alliance (TNA) officials met with an EU delegation visiting Sri Lanka as part of their review of the General Scheme Preference. 

During this meeting TNA  officials stressed the need for Sri Lanka to repeal its draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act which allows for arbitrary detntion without charge and has been linked to accounts of torture.

The discussion further detailed the need for a new constitution to resolve the Tamil national question and raised concerns over ongoing landgrabs and other incursions on the rights of Tamils. The meeting follows a damning EU resolution which highlighted the need to suspend GSP+ preference for Sri Lanka due to the continued deteroration of human rights.
