Hundreds of locals took to the streets of Kilinochchi today to protest against the murder of a pregnant Tamil woman.
A rally that began at the Murikandi Pillayar Temple and ended at the Kilinochchi General Hall saw hundreds join, with placards and banners demanding justice for the murder.
Meanwhile another protest was also held in front of Kilinochchi market, where demonstrators marched to the local police station, and handed over a petition calling for those responsible to be apprehended.
The body of the young woman, who was found to be 5 months pregnant according to a post mortem, was found lying face down inside the Iranaimadu irrigation canal by locals in the Pannangkandi area of Kilinochchi.
A belt believed to be part of the Civil Security Department uniform was found nearby, along with pens, a set of motorcycle keys, an anklet and a sandal.
