The Sri Lankan military announced that it had constructed a new main gate entrance to its 24 Division base in Amparai last month, as it continues to consolidate its presence in the North-East.
The base, located in Malwattai in Amparai, had long required a new gate, reports an official military website but the construction was delayed “amidst other commitments and the busy schedule”.
The announcement comes as the Sri Lankan military continued to double down on its presence in the North-East, despite pledges by the government to demiltiarise the region.
