The US and Sri Lanka will adopt an ambitious joint action plan to promote greater trade and investment and major reforms in Sri Lanka in Washington DC later today.
In a media brief the US government said,
"On Thursday, April 28th, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and Sri Lanka Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama will co-chair the 12th meeting of the U.S.-Sri Lanka Trade and Investment Framework (TIFA) Council, at which both countries will adopt a U.S.-Sri Lanka Joint Action Plan with the goal of significantly increasing two-way trade and investment between the U.S. and Sri Lanka,"
US Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power will participate in the announcement, "in order to highlight how the US-Sri Lanka joint action plan represents continued progress for human rights, as well as democracy and accountability, on the part of the newly elected Sri Lankan government," the brief further said.
The Sri Lankan ambassador to the US, Prasad Kariyawasam, will also take part in the meeting on Thursday morning at office of the US Trade Representative.
