Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa in his last engagement during his visit to the island.

The meeting took place at India House, the residence of Delhi's ambassador to Sri Lanka. Details of the discussions held were not made public.

Mr Rajapaksa on Thursday accused India's intelligence agency of being behind his election defeat.

"It was very open, Americans, the Norwegians, Europeans were openly working against me. And RAW," he told the South China Morning Post, referring to India's Research and Analysis Wing.

"I asked the Indians, 'Why are you doing this? It's an open secret what you are doing.' I had assured them that I would never allow the Sri Lankan soil to be used against any friendly country, but they had other ideas."
