Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that those orphaned in the Koslanda landslide will not be given to the Northern Provincial Council, after they expressed concern that the children would lose their Tamil identity if left in the hands of the Sri Lankan government.
"Under the directions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, we are in the process of completing the necessary paper work to take over the responsibility of orphans," the Hambantota MP said according to The Island, adding that the TNA was trying to exploit the tragedy for their own political mileage.
Amaraweera also criticised Chief Minister CV Wigneswaran’s visit to the area, saying that the TNA was silent about acts committed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
