'We stand with Eelam Tamils' - Congressman Don Davis

In an address before Congress on 16th May 2025, US House Congressman Don Davis commemorated the 16th anniversary of the Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka.

He recognised the enduring struggle and oppression of survivors and their family members in their pursuit for justice and accountability. He urged Congress to ensure that the atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan government against the Tamil people are never repeated.

The Democratic Representative told Congress, “Today and every day, we stand in unity with the Eelam Tamil Community. Survivors and their family members are enduring ongoing struggle and oppression while they seek justice and recognition of their suffering from the Sri Lankan government. We must shine a light on the Tamil people and what they have endured”.

“We must advocate for a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and dignity of all, and Mr Speaker, the atrocities, like those that happened with the Tamil genocide, make sure it never happens again”.

Congressman Davis praised the Tamil community’s resilience “in the face of diversity” and called it a “testament to the unwavering spirit and determination for justice”. He concluded his remarks by calling Congress to “stand together with the Eelam Tamils”.
