Valvettithurai police claimed to have recovered explosives, allegedly produced by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), in Puthuvalavu near Polikandi last Saturday.
Officials stated that efforts are being made to safely disable the explosives, that was found in the early hours of Saturday.
As of March, nearly 15 people, including former LTTE cadres, have been arrested for allegedly transporting and selling weapons in the North-East.
Sri Lankan officials have repeatedly attempted to link the LTTE or former LTTE cadres to several criminal investigations following the armed conflict.
Human rights groups have stressed that former LTTE fighters are victimised and harassed by Sri Lankan state forces, with many calling out such discoveries as a ploy to retain the heavy militarisation across the North-East.
