Twenty-five years after Lt. Col Thileepan fasted to death on hungerstrike he is remembered by Eelam Tamils worldwide.

Marking the anniversary of his death, on 26th September, Canadian Tamil students across Canada took part in a 'Fast for Freedom' - fasting on the day as a symbol of remembrance. Holding poster exhibitions across university campuses, the students highlighted the five demands of Thileepan as he embarked on his hunger strike.

Tamils in the UK came together to mark the 25th anniversary of Lt. Col Thileepan's death on 29th September 2012. The event, organised by the TCC UK, was well attended by Tamils across the generations - those who recalled watching him fast, as well as those who spoke him fondly as 'Thileepan Anna'.
