Tamils across the North-East remembered S. J. V. Chelvanayakam, referred to fondly as Thanthai Chelva and the father of Tamil nationalism, with a blood held in Batticaloa and a commemorative event held at his memorial in Jaffna.
The drive was organised by the youth wing of ITAK-Batticaloa and was facilitated by staff from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, in the run-up to the 41st death anniversary of Thanthai Chelva.
In Jaffna, residents, community leaders and politicians gathered at the memorial statue of Thanthai Chelva to participate in a remembrance event. The statue was garlanded and those present laid flowers in his memory.
