Sri Lanka's Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya today asked foreign diplomats "not to be hast to take diplomatic measures on the current political situation", the Daily Mirror reported.
The country plunged into political crisis on Friay after President Sirisena sacked the prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe and replaced him with the former president, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Jayasuriya today met with a number of diplomats including the UN Representative in Sri Lanka Hanna Singer, the Ambassador of the European Union Tung-Lai Margue, the British High Commissioner James Dauris, the Canadian High Commissioner David McKinnon and German Ambassador Jörn Rohde.
Visiting diplomats reportedly expressed their concern over the political crisis and highlighted the negative consequences the country could face due to it.
Yesterday in a letter to the President, Jayasuriya made a "kind request" to reconvene parliament in order to "prevent the country from falling into a crisis."
