Sri Lanka seeks investments from Singapore

Minister of Foreign Affairs, G.L Periris visited Singapore where discussions around investments and financing were held with officials.

During the visit last week, G.L Peiris met with the Minister for Foreign affairs of Singapore Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong, Minister for Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam and Minister for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran. 

The Foreign minister had sought the support of the Government of Singapore for Sri Lanka to secure bridge financing, increase foreign direct investments and increase opportunities for Sri Lankan exports to Singapore. 

The visit is the first official visit of a Foreign Minister to Sri Lanka in four years and comes as the country faces its worst economic crisis in decades. As the country negotiates with the IMF to secure a bailout, bilateral financing or bridging financing is being urgently sought after.
