The Sri Lankan army unveiled a new archway in Anuradhapura on Saturday, depicting the historic battles between the Sinhala King Dutu Gemunu and the Chola King Ellalan (or 'Elara').

'6 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (6 SLLI) Headquarters at Mahakandarawa, Mihintale, Anuradhapura on Saturday (23) opened its new colossal archway, in bringing historical characters to life through mural statues that depict the famous Vijithapura battles, waged between Kings Dutu Gemunu and Elara, the South Indian invader during 161 -162 B.C.
Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of SLLI Colonel of the Regiment and 6 SLLI Commanding Officer, unveiled a plaque and declared opened the new archway, guarded by two symbolic giants (Yodhayas) against infiltration, reminiscent of good olden times of royalties.'
