Six first-year undergraduates of the Sabaragamuwa University were detained and interrogated by the Terrorism Investigation Department (TID) on Tuesday, becoming the third set of students arrested at the southern university.
On August 3rd Santhirakumar Sutharshan was attacked and severely beaten after posters displaying threats against Tamil and Muslim students appeared across the Sabaragamuwa campus. Sri Lankan police later accused Mr Sutharshan of making a ‘false complaint’ and allegedly extracted a confession from him that his injuries were self-inflicted.
Another Tamil student, Yoganathan Nirojan was arrested by the TID the following week.
